| | People’s Federal Credit Union (People’s), a division of the Self-Help Federal Credit Union, is a community development financial institution (CDFI). We are located in Oakland, CA. As a CDFI, our goal is to promote the economic empowerment of Oakland’s residents, especially those traditionally underserved by financial institutions. We look to achieve this goal by: keeping our rates and fees low; providing financial education to community members; and creating a unique environment in which our members understand their importance to our success and also feel a shared sense of responsibility with their neighbors and fellow members.
Low Rates and Fees As a not-for-profit financial institution, People’s does not seek profits. Instead, we look to provide our members with great, low-cost financial services. That is why we offer loans at rates far lower than competing financial institutions. That is also why you will not find yourself overwhelmed by hidden fees and unreasonable charges for even the most basic services. At People’s, our members are our bosses, and we do everything possible to ensure their satisfaction. Financial Education Services In our fast-paced global economy it is difficult for even the most astute individuals to fully understand the pitfalls and opportunities that exist in our financial system. People’s helps members become better consumers so that they will not fall victim to overzealous credit card companies and predatory lenders. We also instill the knowledge and teach the skills necessary to manage one’s personal finances successfully. We work one-on-one with members to help them understand banking, budget effectively, and build or repair their credit. Unique Environment Each member of People's is a part owner of the credit union, which, as previously mentioned, makes them our bosses. That is why the staff at People's affords each member the courtesy and respect one typically reserves for those in positions of power. As a member, you are not simply a customer but part of a cooperative made up of your family, friends, and neighbors. Through People’s, you can work with your fellow members to strengthen bonds and foster positive changes within your community. |
